Sigh. CH posted about the controversy again. That’s what inspired this poor, delusional soul. Here’s the link if you wish to sully your eyes with it (http://www.charlaineharris.com/bb/bb_current.html). She’s playing the martyr again, and that riles up the faithful.

Of course, for those of us who AREN’T drinking the Kool-aid, it just digs the grave for her career even deeper. It’s interesting that when looking for reassurance about her book, she points to sales. She writes, “In the end, my sales went up. I would rather not have had to endure what I did, but did the controversy really hurt the book? No, it didn’t.”

It’s all about her and her sales. Nothing about the feelings of the majority of her fans, many of whom wrote heartbreaking reviews/eulogies after reading the book. They felt betrayed or played, but that means nothing to her. Money and professional success are all she focuses on. The more she posts, the more she confirms my view of her as an utterly self-absorbed, greedy hack.

I even wonder if that’s why Sookie has been growing less and less likable. She’s being written by Harris, who is clearly having some problems with selfishness and misjudgment. These are similar to the problems Sookie posed to me, as a reader. How do you root for someone who seems so selfish and unempathetic? Whose view of the world is so skewed? I hoped that Harris realized that Sookie was becoming unlikable, and was consciously doing it to show that Sookie was an unreliable narrator, or that she was under some malign influence. Nope. She’s just channeling her creator.

Grrrrr. CH is just insulting those displeased with her book, at this point.

“I wonder if it’s even possible to offer constructive criticism about a 13-book series that’s at an end. Surely such criticism would only have been helpful if it had been offered earlier, so that if I felt it were valid I could implement it.”

YES, IT IS POSSIBLE TO OFFER CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, CHARLAINE. Many readers aren’t primarily upset about the suitor situation, as an example, but the multiple errors present throughout the book which go against the writer’s own canon! But she ignores this to attack those people who are upset Sookie ends up with Sam instead of Eric, because that’s easier, I guess, and doesn’t actually address very real concerns with her inconsistent writing.

Not only that, but her stance on “If it came earlier, I would have implemented it” is such BULLSHIT! She got some pretty damn constructive criticism throughout, and not only did she not implement anything, she went out of her way to “punish” those offering it by messing with her own story.

” At some point, I realized that nothing I did or said would even make the most virulent haters pause for a moment in their hating to consider any words of mine.”

In other words, she doesn’t have an explanation for the many obvious flaws in her storytelling, so instead of addressing what are legitimate concerns, she is playing the victim card and blaming the outrage on “haters” who are just pissed off at the HEA.

All this “controversy” has done for me is make me distrust Charlaine as a writer. I think the way she has handled herself in the wake of all this is childish, and I will never give her another dime or read another of her stories. If that makes me a “hater”, then hate on, I guess. Hate on.

Indeed.

She is a mediocre writer who stumbled on an interesting concept, but couldn’t carry it through. Which is fine, there are plenty of those. But she got belligerent and reactive with the very fans who plucked her from the middle and onto the best-seller lists, and basically pissed all over them.

That is her intelligence level. Forget constructive criticism. She is not capable of processing any.

And now CH backtracks once again….ugh. Guess it’s not just about Eric enjoying himself with Freyda anymore, and it’s not just about him showing Freyda that he “protects his own”, but rather it’s about Eric actually caring for Sookie and showing Freyda what he’s willing to do for those he cares for. Hmmm….guess that’ll show Freyda what he’s willing to do for her because he’ll care for her, too. I expect we’ll see something later about how happy Eric is with Freyda and how perfect they are for each other. My stomach continues to turn. :(

Eric is a complex character; he definitely doesn’t only care about himself, though he’s number one. He’s a great survivor. You don’t last a thousand years without being that. I thought he showed tremendous caring for Sookie in negotiating for her safety at considerable cost to himself. At the same time, he showed Freyda he could be loyal to people he cared for, a fact that wouldn’t be lost on her.

This is a writer. Who wrote us a thing. A thing that was presented pretty specifically. And pretty explicitly. But when we questioned that thing, and didn’t accept that thing at face value, and challenged the actual value of the thing, the writer came back with:

“But no, this is not the thing. The thing you thought was the thing, is not the thing at all. When I wrote you a thing, what I really meant was that other thing. You misunderstood my thing. In that way where you read what I wrote exactly as I wrote it, and not as I am telling you now, months later, I meant to write it…”

Dear Charlaine Harris, please stop. Just stop.

To prepare for his role as a corporation-baiting anarchist in The East, Alexander Skarsgård didn’t ride the rails or join an anarchist collective. “I was already scheduled to film Disconnect andWhat Maisie Knew, two other films, so I basically had to do all my preparation from my trailer on-set here in New York, or in my hotel room, while shooting,” the True Blood star said at a screening on Monday.

Around that time, the Occupy Wall Street protests and Wikileaks incidents arose; both relate to issues raised in the film. “It just felt very timely,” Skarsgård said. “And then the BP oil leak happened a couple of months before that, so it all felt like it was something in the air and a frustration that I definitely can understand.”

“It was kind of amazing, because we wrote the oil-spill jam that opens the film, where these kids break into the East Hampton summer estate of the C.E.O. of an oil company, and they dump oil on his property, and it’s like coming out of his pooland dripping out of the vents onto his bed sheets. And we wrote that, and literally a week later the BP oil spill happened,” said Brit Marling, who co-wrote the script. “And we were like, Holy shit, this is prescient.”

To play the head of an elite private intelligence firm serving big corporations, Patricia Clarkson says she stripped away emotion to the point where she was unaffected. “And that’s what I think happens to those people,” she said. “I have a feeling all those C.E.O.’s, when they go to bed at night, they go to bed as a C.E.O., they wake up as a C.E.O., they make love as a C.E.O. You know, people think they put on all these hats; I think they wear one hat 24/7.

“Like BP,” Clarkson added. “The head of BP, he stood in front of every person in our damn country, and said, ‘Oh, it’s going to be fine.’ Where does that come from? He goes to bed like that; he wakes up like that. And when he takes a shower, nothing comes off.”

Marling, who also stars, had a very practical reason for writing the script, together with director Zal Batmangilij. “I only started writing in order to act,” she told VF Daily. Also, Hollywood is very competitive. “If anybody writes a good part for a girl, there’s dozens of talented girls competing for it, so if you become a writer, you can kind of ensure that you have a job that year,” Marling said, laughing.

One interesting aspect of a female-written script: the gratuitous nude scenes in this film are all of Alexander Skarsgård.

Skarsgård’s scruffy anarchist sports cringe-worthy long hair and facial hair, which he thought was perfect for the militant character. But viewers will be happy to know that—to serve the plot—he eventually ditches the wig and beard and goes back to his handsome self. “I’m glad it wasn’t for the entire film,” Skarsgård admitted at an after-party hosted by Piaget. “Because it was so itchy and uncomfortable and horrible. And so it was kind of a relief once I got rid of it.”

With humans closing in on them, the vampires of Bon Temps will resort to desperate measures on the upcoming sixth season of HBO’s True Blood – and it sounds like some of them may even be crossing over to the dark side! “[Eric’s] doing some evil stuff this year, some stuff that’s not so nice,” Alexander Skarsgard told HollywoodLife.com on May 20 at Piaget’s screening of Fox Searchlight’s The East in NYC.

“I like them both,” he told us about ‘good’ Eric and ‘evil’ Eric. “It’s fun to go back and forth, you get to play around with both sides. It’s always more interesting than one extreme or the other … when you have both within, and it’s an internal struggle.”

We’ve seen Eric commit some pretty seedy acts — remember when he killed Talbot while having sex with him? — and Alexander promised there’s plenty more where that came from. Though he admitted that Eric’s temporary season-four amnesia “affected him in a way,” he said Eric’s still going to be up to his old tricks.

“You’ll see this season he’s doing some pretty nasty stuff,” he told us. “It’s not all good.”
